So for those who don't know, at my day job I am a graphic designer for a Japanese comic book publisher. One of my favorite work-related projects of last year was designing the rerelease of TekkonKinkreet: Black & White (the color on Amazon is all wrong).
The story and art are fantastic so you should check it out if you get a chance. But beyond that, I was told I could do nearly whatever I wanted. The cover art comes from an entirely different artbook, I used tons of interior panels, cropped, colored and otherwise manipulated as much art as I could. I also put teal EVERYWHERE. I don't know what my deal is with teal these days.
I also printed on the backside of the dust jacket and got a bunch of color pages to play with on the inside and we increased the trim size. Here's the softcover:
I'm just mentioning this because although I have the TekkonKinkreet DVD, I haven't watched it yet and I just read on flavorpill that plaid did the soundtrack for it. That's kinda cool, yo.
In other news, I am currently working on another book where the story probably isn't as strong but I still love the artwork and I pushed for doing slightly wacky things with the design. Once that's approved and sent to print, I'll post it here.
